Geometric analysis Flashcards
what is geometric analysis
Gravimetric analysis is a technique that can be used to determine the amount of salt in a solution
Stoichiometric calculations
allow you to use the mole ratio established in a chemical equation to predict the amount of a product that will be formed or how much reactant will be used.
electromagnetic spectrum
The spread of the different types of radiation arranged according to their relative energies and
wavelengths
stationary phase
a substance or material the molecules cant move in
-less soluble substances dont move far
chromatogram
The pattern of bands or spots
mobile phase
a substance the molecules can move in (solvent or water we put the paper into)
-soluble substances move quicker
Rf value (retardation factor)
distance travelled by the substance/ distance travelled by the solvent
pure substance
wont separate
origin
position of the spot
Volumetric analysis
Analysis using measurement of volumes, e.g. titration
standard solution
A solution that has an accurately known concentration.
primary standard
A substance of known high purity which may be dissolved in a known volume of solvent.
