Q

What is air pressure?

A

The force pressing down on us because of the weight of the air. If air pressure is rising it means air is sinking and vice versa (mb)

Q

How do you measure wind speed?

A

Using an anemometer - It looks like a toy windmill. The stronger the wind blows, the faster the cups spin around.

Q

How do you measure sunshine hours?

A

Sunshine recorder- a glass ball that directs sunlight onto a card (treated with a special chemical). The sunlight burns a mark onto the card.

Q

How do you measure temperature?

A

A Stevenson screen - A thermometer is put inside of a white box. It is white because white reflects heat. It has shutter doors because air needs to circulate. It is raised off of the ground so that it doesn’t measure the ground’s heat. In the Northern hemisphere it faces South because it is hotter. The box shields the instruments.

16
Q

How do you measure air pressure?

A

Barometer - air pressure falls when there will be rain and raises when it is sunny,

17
Q

How do you measure viability?

A

Visibility meter

18
Q

How to you measure cloud cover?

A

Your eyes or a satellite image

19
Q

What is convectional rain?

A

The heated ground warms the air and forces it to rise.

20
Q

What is relief rain?

A

Air is forced to rise over high land. As the air get to mountains, they are forced to go over them, condensing into clouds.

21
Q

What is frontal rain?

A

warm air meets cold air .
Cold air is more dense than warm air-so it Stays above. As cold and warm air meet warm air rises creating clouds. warm air then cools creating rain.
