Relative location
Distance north or south of the equator (parallels)
Latitude
Distance east or west of the prime meridian (Meridian’s)
Longitude
Half of the earth
Hemisphere
Any of the four large bodies of salt water that cover much of the earths surface
Ocean
Large body of salt water that is smaller than an ocean
Sea
Arm of an ocean or sea that is partly enclosed by land, usually larger than a bay
Gulf
Part of a body of water that is partly enclosed by land
Bay
Narrow channel that connects two larger bodies of water
Strait
Narrow point of land that extends into a body of water
Cape
Man-made waterway that is used to drain or irrigate land or to connect two bodies of water
Canal
A body of water that is surrounded by land
Lake
Land area that is surrounded by water
Island
Large stream of water that empties into a large body of water
River
High, steep, rugged land area that rises sharply above the surrounding land
