Geography Test 1 Flashcards
What is a natural hazard?
A natural event that affects people and their property.
Name the 3 different plate boundaries:
1.Transform (conservative)
2.Divergent (constructive)
3.Convergent (destructive)
Why do plates move?
Because of convection currents
What does latitude measure?
The distance north or south of the equator
What is meant by the epicentre of an earthquake?
Point directly above the focus on the surface of the earth
What is the focus of an earthquake?
The point where an earthquake starts
What type of plate boundary can create an earthquake?
Divergent, convergent
Explain how divergent and convergent plate boundary’s create earthquakes.
Divergent: The plates move away
Convergent: The plates move towards each-other
What scale is the Richter scale measured on?
1-10
Give 1 short term and 1 long term impacts of a hazard you have studied
ST:Fires/flooding
LT:Trees uprooted
