Longitude
Distance measured in degrees east or west from an imaginary line (called the prime meridian) that goes from the North Pole to the South Pole
Latitude
A distance north or south of the equator measured in degrees up to 90 degrees
Tropic of Cancer
North of the equator
Tropic of Capricorn
South of the equator
Equator
An imaginary circle around the middle of the earth that is the same distance from the North Pole and the South Pole
Meridian
Any one of the lines that go from North Pole to the South Pole
Prime meridian
A line of geographical longitude that is defined as 0 degrees
Northern Hemisphere
the half of the earth that is north of the equator
Southern Hemisphere
the half of the earth that is south of the equator

Topographic map

Bearings
a sense of direction
Area reference
the eastings and northings/ vertical and horizontal lines on a map
