absolute location
The exact location of a place on a map using the global grid.
relative location
The location of one place in relation to another.
historical map
A map of information about the past or past events.
road map
Shows roads, highways, and interstates that connect one place to another (helps with directions).
climate map
A map showing information on the general weather conditions of an area.
population map
A map showing the number of people that live in a given area.
physical map
A map that shows the Earth’s physical features.
key/legend
Describes the symbols on the map.
symbol
Something that stands for something else.
scale
The relationship between the distance shown on a map and the real distance on Earth.
compass rose
It shows the directions on a map.
cardinal directions
North, East, South, West
latitude
Latitude runs 0–90° north and south.
longitude
Longitude runs 0–180° east and west.
