What is dredging for?
Dedging is made to prevent bottlenecks, which sparks up floods. By this, we prevent floods and create more land.

What is a bottleneck?
A bottleneck is made of sediment, that has been left for a long time without dredging, that forms a sort of bottle shape, that rises levels of water in different areas of the waterbed.
