What is meant by a countries development
The overall progress and improvement in a countries economic and social aspects.
What is economic development
The level of a country’s wealth and how its generated, factors like GDP, GNI and per capita income
What is social development
the level of access to services and the wellbeing of people- access to education, healthcare, literacy rates, life expectancy
What is environmental development
The quality of the built and natural environment- effective sewage and waste disposal (rubbish and recycling collection)
What is political development
the stability of the government (how effectively the country is run) and the freedom and rights of the people who live their- the amount of protection the law gives a group of people
What is the Gross National Income (GNI)
The value of a country’s goods and services- this is an economic indicator of a countries development
What are the human factors effecting a countries development
Quality of healthcare, education, war/peace, gender equality (men and women paid the same they both improve economy but if just men paid more it reduces the GNI)
what are the physical factors effecting a countries development
Supply of natural resources (oil, diamonds, coal that a country can sell), Climate (extreme -desert - bad as cant grow anything to sell or eat, mild climate good), Location (large coast line, country able to trade goods via ships and improve its economy)
What are historical factors affecting development of a country
Colonialism - Where one country takes over another and exploits its resources.
War also is a big factor
