Virginia’s 5 graphic regions are the Fall line, the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Appalachian Plateau, the Valley and Ridge, and the Coastal Plain
What are the Coastal Plain’s special characteristics for both location and it’s land features?
Location: The Coastal Plain is located near both the Atlantic and the Chesapeake Bay. It also happens to be east of the Fall Line.
Land Features: The Coastal Plain is a Flat land and includes the Eastern Shore.
What are the Piedmont’s special characteristics for both location and it’s land features?
Location: The Piedmont is west of the Fall line
Land Features: The Piedmont known a the rolling hills, and it’s name means, “At the foot of mountains.”
What are the Blue Ridge Mountains’ special characteristics for both location and it’s land features?
Location: Old, rounded mountains a part of the Appalachian mountain system
Land Features: The Blue Ridge mountains is the source of many rivers
What are the Valley and Ridges’ special characteristics for both location and it’s land features?
Location: The Valley and Ridges are West of the Blue Ridge Mountains
Land Features: The Valley’s are separated by Ridges (includes the Great Valley of Virginia) and is also a part of the Appalachian Mountain system.
What are the Appalachian Plateau’s special characteristics for both location and it’s land features?
Location: The Appalachian Plateau is located in Southwest Virginia
Land Features: Only a small part of the Appalachian Plateau Is located in Virginia. It also has “Plateau” in it’s name because “Plateau” means an area of elevated land that is flat on the top.
What are Virginia’s Water Features?
Virginia has 7 different water features that all happen to be important to Virginia’s history.
Those being The Appalachian Plateau, the Valley and Ridge, the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Piedmont, the Coastal Plain, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Chesapeake Bay.

A peninsula is a piece of land bordered by water on three sides. Virginia’s four major rivers just so happen to be separated by those peninsulas.

The Eastern Shore is a large peninsula located in the Coastal Plain region. It’s bordered by the Chesapeake Bay and to the east of the Atlantic Ocean.
