The reactor burned for about a week,spewing out radiation and was put out by helicopters dumping tonnes of sand and firefighters working.100,000’s of people(mainly army) were sent to clean it up.In total it took around 2 years while the building was sealed up in a tomb
What can carcinogenic material lead to?
It can lead to cancer in people and animals.All radioactive materials are carcinogenic.
When did the evacuation begin?
On sunday 27th April 1:50pm and at 2pm 1,100 buses began to pick up the 40,000 residents
What happenened during the evacuation?
Everything was abandoned and by 4:20pm the town was empty,in early june another 35,000 people were evacuated as highly radiocative spots were found further away.In all,more than 110,000 people were evacuated
What effects did the chernobyl disaster have?
Birth defects were far more common for years following the Chernobyl disaster
How is nuclear power used to create energy?
-The reaction is triggered
-Water is heated
-Hot water is circulated
-Steam is created
-Steam energy is converted to electrical energy
-Electrical energy is passed to national grid
-Electricity is sent through power lines to homes
-The steam is cooled and recycled

Meeting the needs of the present population without compromising the needs of future generations. Needs to be balanced between social, economic and environmental.
