What is a contour interval
The difference in height of two contour lines
What do contour lines that are close to tether represent?
Steepness, or a cliff
What are spot heights?
They are the highest point in a contour map
Tributary
Larger rivers fed by water from smaller rivers- these rivers are called tributaries
Water basin
The area that contains all the tributaries that feed into the larger River
Watershed
The boundary of drainage basin, that is marked by high land
What are contour lines?
Contour lines are lines on a topographic map the tell you shape and height of land
What is a spur
An are of land that sticks out like a finger from a side of a hill or mountain. Contour lines form a U or V that points away from high land
What is a valley
Low land between hills or mountains. It usually has a river flowing through it. Contour lines V or U that points towards high land
What is a saddle
Two areas of high land with a dip between them.it is shown by two sausage shaped contour lines with a gap between then
Plateau
An extensive area of flat land that is higher than the land around it. Close contour lines surround a wide area that has no or few contour lines
What is a round hill
A high round piece of land, not as large as a mountain. Contour lines for a circular or oval shape
Ridge
Long narrow hilltop. Closely spaced contour lines form a long sausage shape
Cliff
A high steep, rocky slope. Contour lines are on top of or nearly on top of each other.
