an area of land completely surrounded by water
archipelago
a large group or chain of islands
cove
a small, sheltered bay in the shoreline of any body of water
bay
a wide inlet of an ocean, sea, or lake that extends into the land–usually smaller than a gulf
gulf
part of an ocean extending into the land and usually larger than a bay
channel
a waterway connecting two bodies of water OR the deepest part of a river or waterway–deep enough to let boats sail through
strait

canal
a man-made waterway used for navigation, irrigation, or drainage

low wet land that supports grass and trees
reef
a ridge of rocks or coral in a body of water, which lies slightly below, or at surface
isthmus
a narrow piece of land connecting two larger pieces of land; has water on two sides
cape
a fairly large, narrow, pointed piece of land extending into a body of water
peninsula
a piece of land surrounded on three sides by water
volcano
an opening in the earth’s crust through which lava can flow, often building a mountain
mountain
landform with fairly steep slopes, small summits, elevation of 2000+ feet
mountain range
a long connected chain of mountains or hills
hill
landform arising from surrounding land–elevation from 500 to 2000 feet
pass
a passage through or over mountains or hills
valley
low land between hills or mountains
peak
the pointed top of a mountain
