How many numbers are in grid reference
4
how many numbers are in area reference
6
how do you calculate a bearing?
draw line a to line b, and use protractor for the angle
what are topography maps
Topographic maps show relief by the use of contour lines.
how do you use contour lines
Contours are lines on maps which indicate the land height above sea level. There are two key rules * When contour lines are further apart it means that it is a gentle slope * If the contour lines are closer to together that means it is a steep slope.
What is a chloropeth map?
A choropleth map is a thematic map that is used to represent statistical data using the color mapping symbology technique. It displays enumeration units, or divided geographical areas or regions that are colored, shaded or patterned in relation to a data variable.
what is a politcal map
The map of countries including borders etc
what is a sypnoptic map
a simple representation of the weather patterns at the Earth’s surface, showing the locations and movements of the different systems
how do you read isobars on a sypnoptic map?
Isobars are the plain lines curving across the map. They connect points with the same mean sea level air pressure (weight per square area of air above).
when you do latitude and longitiude, which one do you do first?
Do latitude first ( flat across ) then longitude ( up down )
What is a gradient?
a measure of how steep a slope or a line is. Gradients can be calculated by dividing the vertical height by the horizontal distance.
what is a map scale and how do you read it?
Map scale refers to the relationship (or ratio) between distance on a map and the corresponding distance on the ground. For example, on a 1:100000 scale map
what are terrestial ecosystems
ecosystems that are found on land.
what is sustainable development?
is an approach to growth and human development that aims to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
what are the types of photographs?
Ground ( ground ) Oblique ( plane down ) vertical oblique ( high down ) satellite ( self explanatory )
what is aspect
Aspect is the orientation of slope, measured clockwise in degrees from 0 to 360, where 0 is north-facing, 90 is east-facing, 180 is south-facing, and 270 is west-facing.
what is BOLTS
Border, Orientation, Legend, Title, Scale and Source
what is on a compass in what order
North, East, South, west.
what if I want a more specific compass reading? how would i do that?
well start from south, then if your working to east it would be SE, in the middle, or SSE if your closer to south
what are abiotic factors
temp, rain, humidity,wind,soil, etc
what are biotic factors
flower and fauna
What is the environment
all living and non living things with a specific relationship to abiotic and biotic factors
what is an ecosystem
living organisms within a community of non living components, each ecosystem has its own plant and animal community
What is an anthropocene
a period of time during human activities that imoacted the environment
what is the
1)atmosphere
2) lithosphere
3) hydrosphere
4) biosphere
1) layer of gas enveloping the earth
2) rocks, soils, and crust
3) all water on earth
4) all living things, plants animals etc
why do we change the environment
gaining materials
what are some important contemporary strategies
renewable energy
reduce food waste
use grey water
what is environmental management
maintaining natural resources without depleting resources
what is environmental stability
the ability to maintain an ecological balance in the ecosystem
what is traditional management
Indigenous strategies used to treat everything with respect and being concious of actions ( building hunting etc )
what are some environmental processes
carbon and nutrient flow through food webs, reproduction, and decompositio
what are the quadrants
North west North east
South west.South east
what is a contour interval
the vertical distance or difference in elevation between contour lines.
what is spot height in a topographic map
a dot telling you the height of the location or spot
