Mount Erebus
The conical type of volcano is called this. It’s built up by layers of sedimentary rock and are more common and have a more dramatic profile than the shield version.
Stratovolcanoes
Lava that flows far creates this type of volcano. Hawaii has 5 of them, and they are less common and have a less dramatic profile than stratovolcanoes.
Shield Volcanoes
This is the highest active volcano in Europe. Located in Sicily, it erupted in 1669 killing around 20,000 people.
Mount Etna
This sacred volcano is located on Honshu island in Japan. The most popular trail to the summit is called Yoshida.
