What is an upper course?
A young river flows quickly.The energy builds and causes the fast flowing river to create waterfalls where the water flows.
What is a source of a river?
This is where the river begins. It usually begins high up (mountain)
What is the middle course?
The river gets wider and slows down.
What is a meander?
This is a winding or curving bend in the river.
What is the mouth of the river?
It is where the river opens into a large body of water like a lake or the ocean.
What is a stream?
A small river
What is a trributary?
a stream or river that flows into a bigger river.
What is a Catchment area?
the area drained by a river and its tributaries.
What is a river system?
All the rivers and streams in a catchment area.
What is a lower course?
Where 2 or more rivers or streams meet is called a confluence.Slower and wider because all the tributaries have joined up.
What is a delta?
A type of triangular river mouth. Splits up into small , slow-flowing streams.
What is a valley?
Lower area of land found between high land. Rivers running through them.Gorge is a valley it is narrow, has steep sides and has a river running through it.Open out into coastel plain.
What is a flood plain?
Nutrient rich area around a river which gets covered when the river floods.
