Biomes
A biogeographical unit comprising a biological community which has adapted to the physical environment they are found in and a shared regional climate.
Adaptations
The physical or behavioural characteristic of an organism that helps an organism to survive better in the surrounding environment.
Relationship
The state of being connected
Climatic zone
Areas with distinct and similar climates which occur in broad stripes encircling the world.
Climate
Abiotic factor affecting distribution of terrestrial biomes, influences distribution and characteristics of natural vegetation cover.
Climate factors
Temperature, precipitation, hours of sunshine, rates of evaporation transpiration humidity.
Ecosystem
An environment where plants and animals interact with each other in the natural environment where they live. Interrelated and complex relationships between biotic and abiotic components
Habitat
The natural environment/ place that is normal for the life and growth of an animal or plant.
Lianas
Thick woody vines that grow up in the ground and twine up the trees for sunlight, can be found in canopy and understory layer
Epiphytes
Ferns and orchids, grow on the trees but make their own food (non-parasitic as they do not take water and nutrients from the trees), can be found in canopy and understory layer.
Saprophytes
Fungi or microorganisms that live on dead or decaying organic matter, found in ground layer.
