There is a lower concentration of (obj) found in (continent) such as (country names)
what are some physical inputs
raw materials, land, fuel, water
what are some human inputs
labour, development, transport, machine, research
what is a primary sector
produce materials ( fishing, farming) - LDC
what is a secondary sector
make things from materials ( manufacturing, construction) - LDC/ DC
what is a tertiary sector
Provide services to people
( retailing/ services) - DC
what is a quaternary sector
activities support / improve efficiency of industries (technological research , software development)
what are the reasons for different consumption levels?
affluence, economic changes & industrialisation, lifestyle changes over time
how does affluence affect consumption lvl
Affluent people have a higher state of wealth, meaning they can lead a more comfortable lifestyle compared to others. They have a higher income, and will tend to spend more money on goods and services, using up more energy and consuming more than others.
how does economic change & industrialisation affect consumption lvl
LDCs have started to industrialise in the 19th century. They build factories to manufacture things, and this consumes energy and resources.
how does lifestyle change affect consumption lvl
population of country increase, demand for resources increase. ppl in DC tend to want the latest products, increase consumption rate. ppl in LDC increase consumption rate due to industrialisation
impacts of overconsumption
-food wastage (economic impact)
-food transportation &increasing food miles (environmental impact)
-food production( environmental impact)
-unsafe working environment (social impact)
-low income for factory workers (economic impact)
-water pollution ( environment impact)
impacts of economic impact from food wastage
ppl buy more food than they can consume, and throw away the extra. Survey in 2014 by National Environment Agency and Agri Food Veterinary Agency found 26% of SG ppl purchase more than enough food for consumption. Study in 2019 by Singapore Environmental Council said SG ppl throw away around $342 million in consumed food every year, which means $6.57 million every week.
what is food miles?
distance food travels from farm where it is produced to plate of final consumer
impacts of environmental impact from food production
More food demands –> more land needed for agriculture
Deforestation will lead to further impacts like soil erosion, loss of wildlife sites and reduced biodiversity in wild species. Agriculture activites also lead to overuse of pesticides that may pollute nearby rivers
