Geo Terms - First Week Quiz Flashcards
POINT
a location with neither shape nor size. it is named with a capital letter. i.e. point A, or A.
LINE
made up of points and has no thickness or width. it is named with two points on the same line OR a lowercase script letter (when given).
PLANE
a flat surface made of up points extending in infinite directions. named with 3 of the points on the plane.
INTERSECTION
where a point, line, plane, etcetera meets. the points that two or more geometric shapes have in common.
LINE SEGMENTS
two endpoints and all points in between.
MIDPOINT
divides (or bisects) a segment into two CONGRUENT segments.
RAY
consists of an endpoint that extends infinitely in one direction.
ANGLE
consists of two different rays with a common endpoint (called the vertex).
ANGLE BISECTOR
a ray that divides an angle into 2 ADJACENT angles that are congruent.
COMPLEMENTARY ANGLE
non-adjacent set of two angles that add up to 90 degrees.
SUPPLEMENTARY ANGLES
adjacent set of two angles that add up to 180 degrees.
LINEAR PAIR
two angles whose non-common sides are opposite rays (form a line).
ADJACENT
(right) next to
VERTICAL ANGLES (vertical pairs)
two angles whose sides form 2 pairs of opposite rays (not adjacent).
PARALLEL LINES
coplanar lines that do not intersect.
