Geo study Flashcards
Biome Definition
A biome is a large area with specific climate and plant/animal life.
Desert
A desert biome is a dry, hot environment with minimal rainfall and sparse vegetation.
Polar Lands
A polar biome is a cold, icy environment with long winters, short summers, and minimal vegetation.
Tundra
A tundra biome is a cold, treeless area with permafrost and minimal vegetation.
Boreal Forests
Boreal forests, or taiga, are cold, coniferous forests with long winters and short, mild summers.
Mountain Vegetation
Mountain vegetation biomes have diverse plants adapted to varying altitudes and cooler temperatures.
Grassland
Grassland biomes are open areas with dominant grasses, moderate rainfall, and few trees.
Rainforest Location
America, Africa and Australia.
Rainforest Climate
Hot and wet all year round- this creates a humid climate.
Rainforest vegetation
Palm trees, shrubs, Ferns and fig trees.
Animals
Frogs, sloth, monkeys,
Jaguars and snakes.
Human impacts
Logging, fragmentation, and climate change.
Weather vs Climate
W=short-term conditions, like daily temperature and rain.
C= Climate is the long-term average of weather.
Layers
Tallest one is 1 then goes down
1:emergent layer
2: Canopy layer
3:Under story layer
4: Forest floor
Isobars
Isobars are lines on weather maps that show areas with the same air pressure
