Geo HW Flashcards
What is hydraulic action
it’s is when air gets into the cracks at the base of a cliff causing the cracks to expand fracturing the cliff
What is abrasion
The sandpapering effect when sediment rubs against the base of a cliff
What is traction
a method of transportation as the rocks ROLL along the bottom of the sea or river bead
What is attrition
Where rocks and pebbles hit each other slowly making them smaller
What is longshore drift
The zig zag movement of deposition along a coastline
What is biological weathering
Biological weathering is caused by the movements of plants and animals
What is chemical weathering
Chemical weathering describes the process of chemicals in rainwater making changes to the minerals in a rock
What is transportation
The process of transporting sediment from a beach to somewhere else
What is erosion
The process of eroding a certain cliff base or landform
What is deposition
Deposition is the method of depositing sediment through natural causes
Solution
Where the water dissolves certain rock
Saltation
The bouncing method of transportation
Suspension
Where certain rock is suspended in the water and is transported
Backwash
The action of the wave returning back into the ocean
Destructive
Stronger backwash than swash creating a steep beach
