Budd inlet
29 miles by water from Tacoma. 6 miles long extends S from Dana passage. Terminates in flats that bare at the head of the east and west bays. Entrance is between cooper pt and dofflemyer pt.
East and west bay
Obstructed flats and shoals that bare. Channels have been dredged to the Olympia waterfront and are marked by buoys and lights
Capitol dome
WA state capitol building and dome. Prominent when seen from offshore
Radio tower
On north end of the port and prominent from offshore
Olympia shoal
Bares .4 miles off the west shore. 3 miles inside entrance. A light is on east side of shoals and west side are lights marking the approach to the dredged channel
Log booms/shoals
Numerous shoals piles dolphins and log booms in east and west sides of the harbor.
Port terminal
Operated by port of Olympia on the E side of the turning basin near the head of west bay. Only deep draft facility in Olympia harbor. Several log handlers rail car switcher and cargo handling equipment. More than 59 acres of paved open storage available
Marina
Large marina in the east bay has over 700 berths a 77 ton lift can handle craft up to 90 feet long
Small craft facility
Many marinas in Olympia with stores and services. A private yacht club has its moorings at the head of west bay .3miles south of turning basin
Range lights
Range lights mark the outer channel at 144.5’ T and the inner channel to west bay at 174’ true
Butler cove
Small cove On the west side of budd inlet just west of the entrance channel. Has private piers and country club with golf course
Priest point
East side of the bay forming north side of Ellis creek. 50’ tall heavily wooded with Sandy beaches. Park facility owned by city of Olympia
Ellis creek
East side of the bay with the entrance just south of priest pt. Rural stream with 3 headwater tributaries
