Geo Assesment Flashcards
What is a cold environment?
A cold environment is cold all year round with ice sheets and glaciers. It has to be bellow 0 degrees.
Where are cold environments found around the world?
Russia,Canada,mount killaminjago,the alps,greenland.
How does altitude, latitude and/or continentalitymimpact the location of cold environments.
The further away you are from the equator the colder it is, the higher you are from the ground the colder it is.
How do glacial budgets impact rates of erosion and the movement of ice?
In summer it is wamer so more ice melts so there is less snow witch means more retreatesnin winter no melt lots of snow glacier advances and erodes.
Plucking
Water under the ice gets into the cracks it then freezes sticking to the rock and breaks them away.
Abrasion
The rocks drag along the floor and scratch the floor
Freeze thaw
Water gets into the cracks and freezes the ice then expands and breaks of the rock.
How is a corrie formed?
1.snow builds up in a hollow of a mountain side2.it turnes to ice under its own weight in a rotational movement3.a small corrie full with ice flows out onto the main vally glacier4.abrasion makes it deeper and wider.5the ice melts and makes a tarn.
