Physical geography
is a subfield of geography that focuses on the systematic study of patterns and processes within the hydrosphere, biosphere, atmosphere and lithosphere.
What are the four parts of the internal structure of the earth
The crust, the mantle, the outer core and the inner core
What are their approximate sizes
The earth’s crust is about 15 to 20 kms thick. The mantle is about 2,900 km. The outer core is about 2,200. Km. The inner core is about 1,200 km.
What natural disasters are caused by the structure of the earth
Volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, tsunamis and landslides
What was Alfred Wegener’s theory? What made him come up with this theory
His theory was continental drift which stated that only the continent drifted. He believed that the continents used to be one huge land mass called Pangea.
Who eventually came up with the idea of tectonic plates?
Alfred Wegener came up with the idea of tectonic plates in 1968
What are the different types of plate boundaries? Study diagrams
Divergent plate boundary, convergent plate boundary and transform
What are the three types of rocks
Igneous rock, Sedimentary rock and metamorphic rock.
How do they change rock types?
Metamorphism, erosion and sedimentation. Any rock can transform into any other rock by passing through one or more of these.
What is the rock cycle? How does it work?
The rock cycle is a series of processes that create and transform the types of rocks in the earth’s crust. Inside the earth’s heat, pressure and melting change sedimentary and igneous rock into metamorphic rock. Intense heating results in manga bursting through the earth’s surface and turning into solid igneous rock. Then the cycle starts all over again.
