Q

family studies for gentics

A

gottesman (1991) carried out a meta analysis and reviewed 40 studies that had investigated family history of schiz. he found that the closer the degree of genetic ralatedness, the greater the risk of inheriting it you are.

Q

adoption study for genetics

A

tienari (2000) 6.7% of adopted children with a schiz mother had been diagnosed with schiz. 2% with a non schiz mother are diagnosed this suggests that there is a genetic liability to schiz.

Q

twin study for genetics

A

gottesman (1991) MZ (identical) had a concordance rate of 48% whereas DZ (non identical) only had 17%.

Q

evaluate genetic explanation

A

+ scientific credibility- rather than assumptions there is explanations shown by the research and concordance rates. suggesting there is enough evidence showing a correlation between genetics and schiz
+ deterministic- onset of schiz is predictable due to a correlation between genes. it has low concordance rates compared to other disorders like ocd 86% and anarexia 57%. there is also other factors because it cant be all because of genes it can be because of environment. this suggests that genetic inheritability isn’t the only explanation for schiz.
- methodology- the explanation is based upon twin studies which are going to be small as at least 1 twin has to have schiz
