What is literature that conveys a thought, describes a scene or tells a story in a lyrical arrangement of words. Written in lines and stanzas, using lots of figurative language and sensory details.
Poetry
What refers to any written work that follows a basic grammatical structure. simply means language that is written in sentences and paragraphs
Prose
What are those that tell made up stories
Fiction
What is a broad genre of writing that encompasses all books that provide true information
Nonfiction
Fiction that usually involves the main character going on a quest or journey & experiencing extreme conditions.
Adventure
Fiction that consists of magic, the supernormal, alternate worlds, superheroes, monsters, etc. Anything the author can imagine outside of reality.
Fantasy
Fictional story that is set in the past and sometimes borrows true characteristics of the time period in which it is set.
Historical Fiction
Fictional story that has been written with the intention to scare the reader - sometimes with gory details of the supernatural world.
Horror
maginative stories dealing with the solution of a secret, problem, or crime, and involving suspense or intrigue and red herrings (clues designed to mislead the reader). They often include suspense, cliffhangers, foreshadowing.
Mystery
Genre consisting of stories that could have actually occurred to people or animals in a believable setting. These stories resemble real life, and fictional characters within these stories react similarly to real people.
Realistic Fiction
Genre of literature that is imaginative and futuristic, but based on scientific facts and principles
Science Fiction
Dark, engrossing, and suspenseful plot-driven stories.
Thriller
A futuristic, imagined universe in which oppressive societal control and the illusion of a perfect society are maintained through control. Often exaggerated, criticize a current trend, societal norm, or political system.
Dystopian Literature
Explores the psychology of its characters, who are often unstable. Often incorporate elements of mystery and include themes of crime, morality, mental illness, substance abuse, multiple realities or a dissolving sense of reality, and unreliable narrators.
