Genotypes Flashcards
Codominance
The phenotype is shared by two equal alleles. The dominant allele is unable to mask the recessive allele.
Example of codominance
Black and white chicken makes a checkered chicken (mix).
Polygenic inheritance
Having many physical traits.
Example of polygenic inheritance
Eye color
Sex linked traits
When a trait is carried on a sex chromosome .
Example of sex linked traits
Color blindness
Multiple alleles
When more than 2 alleles exist in a population and not an individual.
Example of multiple alleles
The coat color in rabbits it is influenced by a series of multiple alleles.
Huntington’s disease
A disease that is passed by heredity . It deteriorates brain cells and causing dementia.
Example of Huntington’s disease
The disease happens more with sperm production than egg production. So it’s more likely if a fad has this disease and passes it on to his son.
Down syndrome
When chromosome 21 is copied .
Incomplete dominance
A heterozygous condition in which both alleles at a gene are partially expressed and which often produces an intermediate phenotype.
Example of incomplete dominance
If you had a white rose and crosses it with a red rose you’ll end up with a pink rose.
Hemophilia
A condition where the ability to blood clot is badly reduced, causing the sufferer to bleed profusely from even a small injury.
Label the following genotype as homozygous or heterozygous
BB
Homozygous
