Genomics Flashcards
What is genomics?
Genomics is the study of genetic variability in plants and animals
Do small or big populations lead to homozygosity? What does it lead to?
Small populations, homozygosity leads to infants or any animals dying early
What does migration do?
Increase genetic variation, even in small amounts
If one of the alleles are different what is the population called? And what is the individual called?
Polymorphic; heterozygote
If both the alleles are the same what is the population called? What is an individual known as?
Monomorphic; homozygote
What is Cladogenesis?
The branching of lineages and formation of a new species
What is anagenesis?
Gradual change over time, an evolutionary process in which species continue to exist and survive as an interbreeding population
What is Evolution?
A serial change over time, development from a simple to a more complex form
