Treatment options
A
Not to treat as treatment is largely cosmetic
Cryotherapy
Imiquimod cream 5% OD 3 x per week for 16 weeks
Diathermy, laser or surgery

Treatment of genital herpes (first episode)
A
Oral valaciclovir 500mg BD for 7/7 or longer if new lesions appear during treatment or healing is incomplete OR
Oral aciclovir 400mg TDS for 7/7

Treatment of recurrent genital herpes
A
Oral valaciclovir 500mg BD for 3/7

Suppressive therapy for genital herpes
A
Must have HSV confirmed on testing
Given daily to prevent recurrences
Prescribe for 12 months, then 3 month break
Oral valaciclovir 500mg daily
