What is BV
Most common cause of vaginal discharge in women of reproductive age
associated with a loss of lactobacilli and increase of anaerobic and BV associated bacteria in the vagina
What are the symptoms of BV
Rise in vaginal pH > 4.5
thin, grey-white discharge with a fishy odour
BV has a positive whiff test what does this mean
fishy odour when potassium hydroxide is added
what does BV show on microscopy
clue cells
What is the treatment of BV
metronidazole or clindamycin cream
what can BV cause in pregnancy
preterm labour
low BW
chorioamnionitis
late miscarriage
what are the symptoms of Candida
cottage cheese discharge
vulval irritation and itching
superficial dyspareunia
dysuria
what does candida rash have
satellite lesions
what is the treatment for Candida
culture it first
topical imidazoles eg clotrimazole pessary
OR oral fluconazole (dont use in pregnancy)
Tx for Chlamydia
DASCA: azithromycin doxycycline screening (for other STIs) contact tracing avoid sex for 7 days
Tx for Gonorrhoea

IM Ceftriaxone
azithromycin + cefixime
Tx for genital warts
podophyllin
imiquimod
cryotherapy
Tx for syphllis
IM penicillin
Tx for Trichomoniasis
oral metronidazole
Tx of uterus and pelvis infections
IM ceftiaxone -> doxycycline and metronidazole
