Geniculate Artery Embolization Flashcards
1
Q
Etiology of recurrent hemarthrosis after TKA
A
Etiology not completely understood but reported causes:
- bleeding of hypertrophic synovium which may be impinged between prothesis components
- AV fistula
- pseudoaneurysm
- PVNS
- prosthesis complications
2
Q
First best step in hemarthrosis after TKA
A
Conservative management (33% successful)
- rest
- ice
- elevation
- joint aspiration
- cessation of anticoagulation
3
Q
Other options other than GAE for recurrent hemarthrosis after TKA
A
- surgery (arthroscopic or open synovectomy)
- ## radiation synovectomy with Y90 injection
4
Q
Targeted arteries for geniculate artery embolization
A
- Descending genicular artery
- Lateral Superior Geniculate Artery
- Medial Superior Geniculate Artery
- Lateral Inferior Geniculate Artery
- Medial Inferior Geniculate Artery
- Recurrent Branch of the anterior tibial artery
5
Q
most common angiographic findings with recurrent hemarthrosis after TKA
A
synovial hypervascularity (diffuse periarticular blush) with tortuous or hypertrophied feeding vessels
6
Q
Most common artery embolized during GAE for recurrent hemarthrosis
A
- Lateral Superior GA
- Lateral Inferior GA
- Descending GA
