Genetics Flashcards
Gregor Mendel’s pea plant experiment
Hé contrôles their fertilization by transferring pollen between the two colours of peas(cross pollinate) the 3 laws
State the law of dominance
Some traits are more dominant, when two versions of a trait are present the only the dominant trait will show
State the law of segregation
All living things have two versions of each gene, when making gametes the two versions separate into different gametes
State the law of indépendant assortment
When making gametes genes for traits, different traits act indépendant to each other
How to use punnet squares to predict possibilities of phenotypes and genotypes of offsprings
Know the genotypes of the mother and father put into the sections of a divided square and put the creations in each box
Incomplete dominance Vs codominance
Incomplete dominance is when the alleles from the parents mix together and create something new but co dominance is when they are both there and present but not mixed and equally
How are the differences between the X and Y chromosomes responsible for sex-linked traits
Because they do not have the same structure so the X can carry more genes and so XY is missing some genes
How to demonstrate the hereditary of sex linked traits such as colourblind
XX have to inherit 2 recessive alleles for sec linked traits but XY only have to inherit 1
How to use a pedigree chart to determine stuff
Square =male circle =female shaded means had the trait
DNA
Deoxyribo Nucleic Acid
Tell’s amino acids how to build into the perfect protein shape
Amino Acid
Tiny chemicals that are the building blocks for life 20 different types
Protein
They need to be formed into the perfect shape
RNA
A chemical that helps get the DNA information from the nucleus to the cytoplasm
Gametes
Sperm+Egg
Génotype
2 alleles that make up the phenotypes
