Genetic Linkage Flashcards
1
Q
Homozygous
A
Having the same alleles, for example having both dominant AA alleles (Homozygous Dominant) or both recessive aa alleles (Homozygous Recessive)
2
Q
Heterozygous
A
Having one dominant and one recessive allele, for example having Aa alleles
3
Q
Independent Assortment
A
Alleles inherited for one trait don’t affect the alleles inherited for another trait
4
Q
Genetic linkage
A
The chance that 2 genes are inherited together depends on the distance separating them. The closer the genes, the more likely they are to be inherited together
For 2 genes to be linked the chance of ending up in different gametes is < 50%
