Genetic Engineering Flashcards
also called GENETIC MODIFICATION isa process that uses laboratory-based technologies to alter the DNA makeup of an organism.
Genetic engineering
circular, double-stranded DNA molecule.
Plasmid
facilitates the formation of the phosphodiester bond that forms the DNA structure. (Responsible for formation/bonding)
Dna Ligase
2 Types of genetic Engineering
Classical breeding and
Recombinant DNA Technology
The practice of mating or breeding selected organisms with desirable.
Classical Breeding
Is a series of techniques used to manipulate and isolate DNA segments of interest.
Recombinant DNA Technology
Steps in Classical Breeding:
1.Determine which trait are significant enough to be chosen.
2.Select parents that exemplify the desirable traits.
3.Choose the best offspring from parents to produce the next generation.
4.Repeat the process.
Steps In Recombinant DNA Technology:
1.We need two variables DNA Containing the “gene of interest” and a Bacterial plasmid;
2.We need to cut and open the Bacterial plasmid by “restriction enzyme”;
3.Insert the gene of interest into the open plasmid by DNA ligase.
4.Then you can now have RECOMBINANT DNA. Afterwards, Insert the Recombinant DNA to the bacterial cell.
5.Then isolate the bacteria for it to multiply

Resistant to eggplant fruit and shoot borer.
