Genetic Algorithms Flashcards
What is a population?
A group of individuals of the same species.
What does a genome consist of? What does it do?
It consists of chromosomes. A genome transfers information between generations.
What does a chromosome consist of?
It consists of genes.
What is a gene?
A gene is the computational unit in a genetic algorithm. . It consists of a sequene of bases (baspar) A, T, G and C.
What does it mean that DNA Molecules are “double stranded”
It means that opposite each base, there is a bit flipped version of that base. A pairs with T and C pairs with G. During replication of dna, the helix is split and a new copy can be created to match the two halves that were created.
What is the transcription process?
It is when an enzyme named “RNA polymerase” reads a DNA sequence and produces “mRNA”.
What is the translation process? Where does translation take place?
Its when the mRNA produced during transcription is translated into forming a sequence of amino acids. The combination of different types of amino acids results in new proteins being formed.
