Q

Summary Of Genesis

- what are my three key words that give a frame for Genesis?

A

Framework:
God creates –> Man sins –> God chooses

God creates (Ch 1 and 2) the universe and everything in it, with special focus on humans (Gen 2:7)

Adam and Eve ruin paradise by disobeying –> sin throws humans into a moral free fall (Cain murders Abel) –> people become so bad that God brings a flood (global or regional is debatable), saving only Noah and his family, ark full of animals

–> earth repopulates –> God chooses Abram as patriarch of a specially blessed people (later called “Israel”) –> Abram has a grandson named Jacob –> Jacob has a son Joseph –> Joseph saves Israel from Egypt –> setting up events of Exodus

Q

The “So What?” factor of Genesis

A

Answers the question of “where did I come from?”

Knowing we are God’s creation, and not a fantasy of childish macro-evolution fairy tale nonsense, gives us meaning and an appropriate understanding of reality
