God tested Abraham by telling him to kill his son, Isaac. Abraham did not withhold his only son, and so God promised to bless him again.

Abraham sends out one of his servants to find a wife for Isaac among his relatives back in Aram.

The servant finds Rebekah and she watered his camels, took him back to her house, and then agreed to go with him as a wife for Isaac.

Jacob flees to Haran to escape Esau. He dreams that he sees the Lord ascending and descending on a ladder. The Lord extends the covenant to Jacob.
