Il y a = situation or event in the past

Pendant = explains the duration of an event etc that has finished
je suis arrivé en France il y a dix ans
When using, “Parce que (qu’) ….” it forms part of the sentence:
Il faut développer les énergies renouvelables parce que les énergies fossiles polluent
Use “parce qu(e)” when explaining a reason, or providing a justification
it is necessary to develop renewable energy because fossil energies pollute
When using “À cause de…”, it is followed by a noun (name), or pronoun (noun phrase):
À cause des gaz à effet de serre, le climat se réchauffe
use “à cause de..” if providing a negative result in explaining a cause for or of events:
à cause de la neige, je n’ai pas quitter Paris

When using “Grâce à…”, it is followed by a noun or pronoun:
Grâce à des sites internet, le conseil général lutte contre la pollution
Use “grâce à” when the result of a question, or expression to describe events, is positive:
Grâce à des amis, j’ai trouvé un appartement
Thanks to the internet, the regional council fights against pollution
