A formalized way of doing politics in a system frameworked by rules and procedures safeguarded in a constitution. (Russia has had 3 regimes)
A government
The central executive unit of a political system that makes decisions and policies for an entire state.
A state
An independent sovereign political area that functions as one, self contained unit.
A nation
A distinct group of people who share common ethnicity, culture and language.
Bureaucracy
a system of government in which most of the important decisions are taken by state officials rather than by elected representatives.
A nation-state
An independent political entity (a state) that is organized around the cultural identity and heritage of a particular nation.

Federal State
States in which political sovereignty exists at the national or ‘federal’ government and at the regional, state or department government level.
Unitary states
- states in which sovereignty exists in one central political capital. Decision-making, legislation and policy for the entire state happens from this particular place.
Unitary states tend to be of a smaller geographical area and/or have a greater degree of homogeneity regarding culture, ethnicity and language.
