Rescue breathing
1 breath every 6 seconds, 10 breaths/minute
Depth of compressions for child

1 rescuer can use 2 fingers just below the nipple line or the encircling hands, whereas 2 rescuers will use the encircling hands (lower half of the breastbone)

1 rescuer (30:2) vs 2 rescuers (15:2)

If alone, activate ERS and get AED; if not alone send someone to get the AED

If alone, start CPR (30:2) the activate ERS/get AED; if not alone, send someone to get AED and start CPR
Placement of AED pads for < 8 years old
If smaller pads aren’t there, use the adult pads making sure they don’t touch or overlap; follow pictures for proper placement
Pediatric Chain of Survival
Verify scene safety, Check for responsiveness, Look for no breathing or only gasping, rescue breathing or CPR (if HR < 60); check pulse every 2 minutes
Pediatric Rescue Breaths
1 breath every 2-3 seconds (20-30 breaths per minute)
Checking pulse for child
carotid or femoral (2-3 fingers in the inner thigh)
AED for infants < 1 year
manual is preferred; if n/a use an AED with a pediatric attenuator; if neither is available you may use it
