What is a ‘pattern’?
A pattern consists of various fundamental movements against imaginary opponents, set to a fixed logical sequence
What is an obverse punch?
Punching with the same side as the lead leg in the stance
What is a reverse punch?
Punching with the opposite side to the lead leg in the stance
What does Taekwondo mean?
Tae - foot
Kwon - hand
Do - the art of
The art of the foot (kicking) and hand (punching)
What does a white belt signify?
The innocence of the beginner and their ignorance of Taekwondo
What does a yellow belt signify?
The earth, from where a plant takes root and sprouts as the foundations of Taekwondo are laid
What does a green belt signify?
The plant itself as the student’s skills continue to grow
What does a blue belt signify?
The heavens above: the divine direction in which the plant is growing
What does a red belt signify?
Danger; warning the student of their own capability for damage as well as other students of their skill
What does a black belt signify?
The student’s maturity and skill as it is the opposite of white.
Also their mastery over darkness and a lack of fear of evil or fear itself
