Failed state
A state that has collapsed and cannot provide for it’s citizens without substantial external support and where the government of the state has ceased to exist inside the territorial borders of the state
Anarchy
A system operating in the absence of any central government
Multipolarity
A distribution of power among a number (at least three) of major powers
Nation
A group of people who recognise each other as sharing a common identity with a focus on a homeland
International organisations
An organisation with global membership, scope or presence
Intergovernmentalism
Refers to the interaction and decision making amongst states where power is possessed by member states and decisions are made collectively as well as interaction being based on sovereign independence
Supranationalism
The existence of a higher authority that has the ability to impose its will on nation-states
Intergovernmental organisation (IGO)
An international organisation whose members are states, they are created to solve shared problems and decision making authority lies with representatives from governments.
Nongovernmental organisations (NGO)
An organisation with policy goals but not government or corporate in it’s composition - comprised of individuals and groups.
