Allusion

a category of artistic composition, characterized by similarities in form, style, or subject matter.
Ex. Fantasy, Non-Fiction
Imagery
visually descriptive or figurative language, especially in a literary work.
Ex: The bloody corpse emerged slowly from the muddy, molded grave <– Visual Imagery
Prose
a form of written or spoken language that typically exhibits a natural flow of speech and grammatical structure
Ex. Ex: Everything that is not poetry, a novel
Mood
the atmosphere of the narrative. Mood is created by means of setting, attitude, and descriptions
Ex. Depressed Mood, Anxious Mood
Motif
a distinctive repeating feature or idea; often, it helps develop other narrative aspects such as theme or mood
Ex. Plant motif, Love motif
Theme
the main idea or underlying meaning a writer explores in a literary work
Ex: “Peace and War” “Love” “Good and evil”`
Setting
the time and place in which a story is told
Ex. “Once upon a time in the land of Oz”
Symbol
an object, a person, a situation, or an action that has a literal meaning in a story but suggests or represents other meanings
Ex. Doves represent peace, love, freedom
Verse
a collection of metrical lines of poetry. It is used to define the difference of poetry and prose. It contains rhythm and pattern and more often than not, rhyme
