Q

Blood pressure measurement

A

Muffling point/ disappearance point of Korotkoff sounds right at diastolic pressure. In some ppl, muffling point & disappearance point = farther apart. Occasionally, as in aortic regurgitation, sounds never disappear. If difference = 10 mmHg or greater, record both i.e. 154/80/68. By making sounds less audible, venous congestion may produce artificially low systolic & high diastolic pressures. Pressure difference of > 10-15 mmHg occurs in SUBCLAVIAN STEAL SYNDROME, AORTIC DISSECTION.
