general sleep Flashcards
waves
B awake A drowsy T stage 1 S stage 2 D stage 3+4 REM saw tooth
- delta (< 4Hz): sleep stages 3 and 4; dominant wave in infants up to one year
- theta (4–8Hz): daydreaming, meditation; abnormal in awake adults, but normal in children up to 13, stage 1.
- alpha (8–12Hz): alert but not actively processing information
- beta (13-30Hz): dominant during alert and eyes open
- gamma (>30)Hz): higher level information processing
DM associated with?
i. diabetes is associated with restless legs syndrome, obstructive sleep apnea
depression
k) premature loss of deep (slow wave) sleep
l) an increase in nocturnal arousal / awakenings
f) a reduction in total sleep time
g) increased phasic rapid eye movement (REM) sleep, and
h) increased core body temperature
decreased REM latency
increased sleep latency
Ssri in sleep
Increase rem latency
But decrease sleep efficiency, rem, slow wave
Increase awakened
Exception: maybe Zoloft
Trazodone in sleep
Increases slow wave sleep
Decreases rem
Through blocking 5ht2 receptors
