General Questions Flashcards

1
Q

What are MCP contractures?

A

A condition where the MCP joints are immobilized in extension so the collateral ligaments at the MCP joint are tight. So if the extensors are tight the patient will have a hard time with flexion. Collateral ligaments shorten in the extended position and are hard to stretch out. Creates a claw hand

Q

What are flexion contractures

A

When the PIP and/or DIP joints are held in flexion. The lateral and accessory ligaments of the PIP and DIP joints will tighten and shorten in the flexion position and make it hard to extend

15
Q

What is the ORL and how does it work

A

ORL: oblique retinacular ligament
Is on stretch during DIP flexion and therefore pulls PIP into flexion
When PIP goes into extension, it pulls DIP into extension
PIP and DIP MOVE TOGETHER BC OF THIS LIGAMENT

16
Q

What is mallet finger deformity

A

Tears in central slip. DIP joint stuck in flexion

17
Q

What is Dupuytrens contracture

A

Primarily found in Eastern European men in their 60’s
In Palm, the palmar fascia becomes tight and effects 4,5 fingers and pulls fingers into Palm
Tendons bcm cords and they are stuck there
Keep it open and let it heal inside out. Or heal openly

18
Q

What is trigger finger

A

Repetitive over use of tendons causes them to get caught as they move thru their sheath
Pt will say that index finger gets stuck and they have to extend it manually
CAN HAPPEN TO ANY FINGER INCLUDING THE THUMB (texting)
