What is the difference between Sunnis and Shiites.
Sunnis believe the best person for the job should be caliph. Shiites believe only blood relatives of Muhammad should be caliph.
What type of transportation is best for the desert and why?
Camels-they have wide feet so they won’t sink in the sand a “third eyelid”, they can go days without water and they can close there nostrils in the event of a sandstorm.
What type of shelter would be best for the desert.
Black goat hair tents.
Why were oases important centers of trade in the Arabian peninsula?
- oases are the only places to get water in the desert
- nomads originally traveled from oasis to oasis to keep there herds alive
- over time many nomads and tribes would gather at these locations and started to trade goods
Why did cities develop along the coastal plain of Arabia?
Being close to the water would allow for easy access to water transportation, which encouraged trade and the development of cities.
