Motivation to study medicine
A
- Find biology interesting and its practical applications
- Seeing my mother struggle with rheumatoid arthritis for the majority of my life - wanted to understand this auto immune disease
- Dream to work in the NHS - greatest service to the country and help people at their lowest

- MDT - work with different members of staff
- Achieve best care plan for patient
- Listen to every member

- MDT - lead group of professionals
- Provide best possible care to patients
- Ability to split tasks and delegate
- Identify strengths of individuals in a team

Resilience as doctor
A
- Long journey - 6 years of study followed by specialisation
- Juggle working and studying after FY1 and FY2
- Not everything will go to plan
- Not being able to save everyone
- Face a lot of intensive situations - need to stay calm and do the job

- Helping and leading sessions to aid the year 11s with their speaking

- Giving feedback and enhancing my language skills

A
- Played keyboard and violin - until last year
- Learning languages, continue learning French

Plan B
A
- Take a gap year
- Take up position as HCA or within hospital
- Gain further work experience and continue working
- Retake UCAT/BMAT and reapply next year with stronger application
- Use feedback and what I’ve learnt from this cycle to improve application

Worst things about being a doctor
A
- Not being able to save everyone
- Not being able to continue a patient’s treatment until the very end
- Work life balance will be tricky to achieve

- Want to do everything for a patient - not possible all the time
- Understanding that at one point, all options have been exhausted, how best to manage end of life

- Look at all sides of the argument
- Logically look at solutions
- Choose best possible outcome, damage limitation

- Make a list of everything that needs to be done - ensures nothing is missed out
- Delegate tasks within a team
- Decide which tasks are of greater urgency
- Communicate efficiently with team and at handover
