General question on chords to remember Flashcards
What kind of scale are the notes of a chord (major and minor) always built on.
Chords are always built on the notes of a major scale
If you are to look most inverted chords (not all, because music can always be different but-). What can you examine about it to identify what chord it is.
You have to look for the most common note, because that would make it the tonic.
What is the difference between a chord and a key signature.
Key signature sets the accidentals and scale for the melody, however the chords is for melodic accompaniment and and harmonic structure which doesn’t change the original key signature.
if you played chord different from the key signature, would that change the key signature already established?
no, because the key signature is more for the melody, and the chords are for accompaniment and harmonic structure
What is the difference between E dominant Chord and an E minor 7th Chord?
For an ‘E’ Minor 7th you have an a flattened 3rd which is ‘G’ (Natural), However for a dominant you use the tonic major triad, which means that you are to keep the G sharp (because it one of the accidental in the ‘E’ major key signature). Also, the 7th is flattened for the d
Which is the correct chord for a minor 7th: (Using the key of ‘B’)
Chord 1: B, D(nat), F(#) + A(#)
Chord 2: B, D(nat), F(#) + A(nat)
- Chord 2 is the correct chord for a minor 7th (Using the key of ‘B’ because it uses a flattened 7th which is now A(nat)
- keep in mind that they both start with a minor triad.
Minor 7th always have a flattened __rd and a Flattened __th
Minor 7th Chords always have a flattened 3rd and a flattened 7th
What is the main and difference between a Dominant 7th Chord and a Minor 7th Chord
The main difference is that the dominant starts with a major triad, and a minor 7th starts with a Minor triad
In terms of similarities, they both end in an 7th which is not flattened.
