why pharmacy?
A
- knew i wanted to work in healthcare
- caring for people whilst applying scientific concepts which i find fascinating
- ever-changing industry which excites me because there will always be an opportunity for learning
- i don’t like feeling like there is no further knowledge for me to gain
- lifeguard job allows me to maintain and develop my knowledge and skills through monthly training and new generation
- this is transferrable to pharmacy in my opinion as new research becomes available
- speaking of research i like that there is different avenues that i can go down after my degree, i can practice pharmacy or i can work in research or pharmaceutical business
- during the covid pandemic, i found it excellent when the public were learning of the new vaccine and how they are created whilst it was happening
- i also found it so interesting to learn about how covid was discovered and how the vaccines for it were made
- i want to continue this and educate the public and promote healthy living as well as the other roles of a pharmacist

why uea?
A
- like the idea of having an offer somewhere close to home so that i have the opportunity to live at home during my studies
- i like the campus and the homely feel
- i especially like the library which i have been to to study with my friends during school holidays
- i like the teaching and assessment methods used
- i like that there is placements from day one whereby i will be able to learn in a hands on way and apply what i learn in context from the beginning
- i like that there is the opportunity to study abroad in my final year
- lots of opportunities throughout the degree for research tasks

- in the course overview on the website it says there is an opportunity throughout the course to become a dementia friend, what does this involve?
- male to female ratio?
- is there a mix of virtual vs on campus lectures / study? if so what is the split between the 2?

A
- medication dispensing

What do u think the future of pharmacy holds?
A
- increasing responsibilities as pharmacists become a more prevalent role in the healthcare industry
- pharmacists will be the first port-of-call more often for the general public in community
- take workload off general practitioners
- extra care needs to be taken to maintain trust between the nhs pharmacists and patients if we want to steer clear of a privatisation of the healthcare system
- more tasks for pharmacists eg. bp checks and monitoring of chronic conditions that used to be performed by a gp

What are the roles of a community pharmacist?
A
- assessing conditions and advising them on what medications to take that are available for dispensation in pharmacy
- promote healthy lifestyles around the community
- advise the local community about their health

What are the roles of a hospital pharmacist?
A
- advises the correct selection and usage of drugs in hospitals
- ensure drugs are dispensed and administered carefully
- provide advice on drug therapy and the effects
- promote rational use of medicines
- educate patients on how to administer their own medication after being discharged
- ward rounds: discuss medication related issues and make recommendations to medical staff like nurses as well as the patients themselves

Discuss the experiences that reinforced your interest in pharmacy?
A
- shadowing a pharmacist at a hospital seeing their collaboration with other healthcare professionals is something i would like to be involved with
- doing ward rounds in hospital with pharmacist and seeing how the patients trusted and looked up to them

Are you familiar with any recent developments or challenges in the field of pharmacy?
A
- lots of high street pharmacies closing
- scotland opened first drug-taking centre
- contraception and sanitary products free in some uk pharmacies
