identifies and rates symptoms of depression in primary care
Can a psychiatric condition without known organic cause be described as a ‘disease’?
No, it is an illness or disorder as no demonstrable pathology.
What is classification in psychiatry
The ICD-10 - defines and categorises disorders.

Categorical
What is the function of the diagnostic hierarchy?
The higher disorders take precedence in a diagnosis e.g. if a person with dementia as anxious, the anxiety is classified as a neuropsychiatric symptom of the dementia rather than a separate anxiety disorder.
